The Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA), which supplies electricity and drinking water to the northern Emirates, has chosen Diehl Metering’s HYDRUS ultrasonic meters to upgrade its network. This new contract strengthens our presence in the UAE, where Diehl Metering has a team based in Dubai.

Established in 1999, FEWA serves the populations of the four northern Emirates: Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. In recent years, it has begun a transformation process to replace existing meters in its water network with smart static ultrasonic meters. Given the UAE’s harsh climatic and environmental conditions, the meters need to be robust and durable.

Diehl Metering’s relationship with FEWA begin in 2018, when our regional office took the strategic decision to associate with Mac Al Gurg, a local supplier of sanitary, plumbing and drainage solutions, as well as building products and gas fittings. By positioning ourselves as a distributor working alongside Mac Al Gurg, we secured our first project to supply 36,000 HYDRUS meters in 2018. The meters provided the high levels of reliability and accuracy FEWA were looking for.

Earlier this year, FEWA issued a call for tender for a major 5-year project. Following a successful Technical & Commercial Review, Mac Al Gurg was awarded the contract. As part of our continuing partnership, we will therefore be supplying some 127,500 HYDRUS meters and supporting FEWA as it prepares to deploy a large-scale AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) network for wired and wireless solutions across all four Emirates.
