Diehl and Lufthansa Technik cooperate closely in the EXPLORER design study, creating breath-taking virtual worlds.
Lufthansa Technik relies in its EXPLORER design study on the expertise of Diehl’s specialists when it comes to the projection technology for a VIP cabin. By means of large-scale virtual displays, nearly the entire cabin can be brought to life visually, thereby creating a spectacular atmosphere. This is made possible by clever projection technology, including control software, laid out specifically for the standards applicable for a VIP cabin.
The wide-body VIP cabin concept of Lufthansa Technik is to fulfil two kinds of wishes for its owners: It is to take them nearly anywhere at any time and serve as a personal hotel and base camp for the most diverse kinds of recreational activities and excursions. As a platform for the initial design implementation of these customer wishes in the EXPLORER concept, Lufthansa Technik has chosen the Airbus A330.
Perfect animations covering the space from the window belt to nearly the complete cabin ceiling in the multifunctional lounge area of the wide-body aircraft are part of the design study. No limits are set to imagination in the thematic design: Whether virtual daytime and nighttime skies, almost real underwater scenes or a flying discotheque – all imaginary worlds can be created and displayed by customization.
To implement this unique and exclusive atmosphere visually in a compelling and reliable manner, Diehl Aerospace – a joint venture of Diehl Aviation and Thales – contributes the needed competence and technology in cooperation with Lufthansa Technik. In their close cooperation, the experts of both companies also focus on the approval for this kind of large virtual cabin designs besides their implementation. For this purpose, the design team of Lufthansa Technik has integrated the project technology of Diehl and specifically adjusted it for the application in a VIP cabin. By means of the clever placement of the small, light-weight and passively cooled projectors into the fuselage side and ceiling elements, large-scale virtual impressions are created with contents the configuration of which can be customized by the customers according to their own wishes by means of a corresponding software solution of Diehl.
“We are proud of the outstanding results of the cooperation with our partners at Lufthansa Technik“, says Harald Mehring, Chief Customer Officer of Diehl Aviation. “The specialists of our two companies have created truly breath-taking worlds for our shared customers, which become almost tangible in the cabin and which create an exclusive atmosphere.”
An animated film of the EXPLORER design study, including the large-scale projections, will also be shown at the booths of Lufthansa Technik (booth #1250) and Diehl Aviation (booth #849) at this year's Dubai Air Show. The show will take place from November 14 to 18, 2021.
