The industry’s leading aircraft suppliers Diehl Aviation and Thales Avionics have teamed up to combine their technologies to bring new and innovative solutions to the aircraft cabin. The latest joint solution between Thales and Diehl, the “In Cabin Experience Enhancer” (ICEE), won the prestigious Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Best Marketing Innovation Award last week in Long Beach, California. With the ICEE, cabin surfaces such as partitions, luggage compartments and walls can be used as projection surfaces to display dynamic and changing content such as advertising, flight information and brand messaging.
The basis is the interaction of the innovative cabin projection system from Diehl Aerospace, a joint venture between Diehl Aviation and Thales Avionics and the digital platform of the IFE and InFlyt360 from Thales Avionics. The projections can thus be managed and updated with fresh content via wireless gate connectivity. Passengers can interact with the system via their individual in-seat-touchscreens. In addition to the marketing options mentioned, the ICEE offers considerable potential, especially for the maintenance area. If, for example, a luggage compartment is defective, the repair instructions can be projected directly onto it.
“Connecting the technologies of Thales and Diehl creates fascinating use cases for future cabins. The possibility of retrofitting existing cabins with such a customizable digital solution is an additional advantage. All of this is based on the close and trusting cooperation of both partners, whose competencies in combination enable a smart cabin of the future, “said Florian Maier, CEO Diehl Aerospace.
