Diehl Aviation invites passengers with reduced mobility to experience and test the innovative Space³ lavatory concept. From September 22 to 26, 2025, a full-scale exhibit of the new lavatory will be on display at the Mobility Service Point in Terminal 2 at Hamburg Airport. The goal is to engage directly with travelers and gather valuable feedback to further refine the solution.

The Space³ concept was awarded the prestigious Crystal Cabin Award in the Accessibility category in April 2025. The jury recognized Diehl Aviation’s contribution to promoting inclusion in the aircraft cabin. Space³ introduces a fully wheelchair-accessible aircraft lavatory that combines two separate toilet units into one flexible, spacious, and inclusive unit, with room for an accompanying person. The design seamlessly integrates functionality, comfort, and efficiency:

  • Patented door mechanism enables a generous, fully accessible lavatory area and simplifies maneuvering for wheelchair users.
  • Intelligent layout optimizes passenger movement, featuring multiple handholds, ergonomic design, and specially designed seating and transfer areas.
  • Optimized cabin configuration allows for up to four additional passenger seats within the aircraft cabin.
  • Weight-optimized design reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to current solutions.

“For us, it is crucial that innovation is not only technically impressive but also embraced by the people who need it most,” says Carsten Laufs, Head of Product Innovation and Digitalization at Diehl Aviation. “That’s why we are particularly excited to engage directly with travelers with reduced mobility. Their feedback is invaluable and will feed directly into the further development of Space³ and future projects. Only in this way can we create solutions that truly meet the passengers’ needs and sustainably improve accessibility in aviation.”

Through this initiative, Diehl Aviation sends a strong signal in support of accessibility and inclusion in air travel, inviting affected passengers to actively help shape the future of flying.
