Diehl Aviation has been nominated as a finalist for the Crystal Cabin Award in recognition of its innovative Adaptive User Routing System (AURS). AURS is one of three finalists in the Accessibility category, which recognizes solutions that enable barrier-free and inclusive air travel. Diehl Aviation previously won this category in 2025.

AURS sets a new benchmark for inclusive cabin design by transforming the aircraft lavatory into a space that passengers with visual or hearing impairments can navigate with confidence.  Co-created with the input and feedback of travelers with sensory impairments, the concept combines an accessible lavatory layout with a smart digital layer that adapts to individual needs. High-contrast surfaces, tactile guidance, Braille and distinct control shapes facilitate intuitive orientation, and safety announcements are displayed visually on an integrated mirror screen to ensure that critical information is not audio-only. Adaptive lighting and optional audio cues also help passengers with low vision.

Built on the company’s connected-cabin technology, the system is fully certifiable and technically ready for airline use. AURS is already being used as a technology demonstrator in ongoing trials with accessibility groups, going beyond regulatory compliance by restoring independence, clarity and dignity in one of the most challenging spaces on board.

“Being named a finalist again is a strong endorsement of our commitment to inclusive innovation,” said Carsten Laufs, SVP Product Innovation and Digitalization at Diehl Aviation. “With AURS, accessibility is not an add-on, it is an integral part of the cabin experience. We are very proud of the team behind this innovation, and we are looking forward to the final round of the CCA.”

The Crystal Cabin Award winners will be announced at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg.
