This expansion is a key part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its manufacturing footprint and meet growing demand in the aviation industry. The facility will primarily produce products and components for commercial passenger aircraft, ensuring reliable deliveries as production rates continue to rise.

Numerous government representatives from Romania took part in the festivities. By participating in person, Dorin Cosmin Vasile (President of Dolj County Council), Adrian Câciu (Member of Parliament for Dolj County), Alexandra Presură (Senator of Dolj) and Daniela Barbu (State Secretary at the Romanian Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity) acknowledged this important milestone for the region.

Strategic Location: Craiova at the Heart of Europe

Craiova was selected for its strategic advantages: The Dolj region offers excellent infrastructure, including direct access to major highways and Craiova International Airport, enabling efficient logistics and seamless connectivity to suppliers and customers. The region is also known for its strong availability of skilled professionals, supporting high-quality production standards.

As an EU member, Romania provides political stability, economic security, and strong market integration. Competitive operating costs combined with a modern, business-friendly environment create an ideal setting for sustainable growth.

New production site meets growing demands

Diehl Aviation is investing a mid-double-digit million-euro amount in the new facility, which will offer over 12,000 square meters of production and office space. With the groundbreaking marking the official start of construction on July 30, 2025, the build-out is scheduled for completion by mid-2026. Production is planned to commence shortly thereafter.

At launch, the facility will employ approximately 75 staff, with a medium-term goal of growing to around 500 employees in Romania.

Collaboration and Regional Network

The new Craiova site will work closely and efficiently with Diehl Aviation’s existing locations in Hungary and Germany, forming a broader international footprint within Europe. Production in Romania will enhance operational flexibility and strengthen supply security across the company’s global network.

The new facility meets the growing demand in the aviation sector by ensuring a more reliable and flexible supply chain for Diehl Aviation’s customers. Expanding production capacity in Craiova will also contribute to optimizing the company’s cost structure, enabling it to offer more competitive prices.

Partnership with Local Provider

The construction project will be primarily planned and executed by the experienced Romanian company Global Vision, ensuring strong regional integration and efficient project delivery. This collaboration strengthens local value creation and supports knowledge and technology transfer in the Craiova region.

“Our new facility in Craiova represents a strategic investment in Diehl Aviation’s future,” said Jörg Schuler, CEO of Diehl Aviation. “The combination of an excellent location, skilled talent, and strong local partners enables us to continue delivering high-quality and competitive products. We are pleased to take this important step together with the Dolj region and our local partner.”
