Diehl Metering has devised a customised solution to modernise Bahrain’s water network, helping to improve billing accuracy and boost satisfaction among the island nation’s 1.5 million consumers.
Operated by the government agency Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), the network relied solely on mechanical water meters until 2015. To transition to a fixed network, Diehl Metering had to devise a tailored solution that accounted for certain limitations in the country’s building infrastructure.
Working with local partner EMCO, our team overcame the challenge of a mix of old and modern buildings by creating a wireless fixed network using specially-designed IZAR RDC Battery units to transmit data at pre-set times. Every 3 hours, readings are taken from some 75,000 HYDRUS ultrasonic meters, as well as existing third-party devices. An additional 182,000 HYDRUS meters are currently being integrated into the network.
Using our IZAR@NET data management software, EWA can now continually monitor meter data and immediately detect leaks. This has enabled it to reduce water losses, automate billing, and upgrade its network for many years to come.
