Recently, the mioty alliance released its product certification process. HYDRUS 2.0, our ultrasonic smart water meter, has successfully passed all required tests and is, hence, fully compliant with the technical specifications of the mioty alliance. It is the first product on the market officially certified by the mioty alliance. Already in the field with over than 350,000 units, the smart water meter with mioty® technology provides:

  • accurate water measurements over the long term,
  • data transmission over very long distances, even from hard-to-read locations (e.g. concrete pits),
  • with low power consumption.

Its approved extended measuring range allows utility services to guarantee sustainable water management by providing an optimal tool for accelerating the detection of water leaks and minimizing non-revenue water (NRW).

A certification process to ensure interoperability

The mioty alliance certification ensures that the meter is completely interoperable within the mioty® integration framework, enabling seamless plug-and-play implementation. As an open standard, mioty® can be implemented by everyone, and several products and solutions are in the process of being certified.

The certification process will allow public services and municipalities to access a vast ecosystem, with multiple applications in various sectors:

  • smart cities,
  • smart buildings,
  • industry 4.0
  • ...

All these future-proof solutions enable easy and cost-effective integration of new IoT devices.

Every certified product will be labeled using the mioty alliance interoperability trademark and listed on the homepage of the alliance website.

Among smart city technologies, mioty® is the best for massive IoT networks

Extremely robust against interference, easily scalable and highly efficient over long distances, mioty® overcomes LPWAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Network) limitations. This hardware-independent technology enables the development of massive IoT networks, promoting the emergence of smart cities.

As so-called Splitting Mode of the OMS Generation 5 protocol, mioty® is accessible to all smart metering manufacturers. They will then be able to achieve exceptional data reception capabilities while being fully compliant with the established Open Metering System.

Diehl Metering paves the way to smart cities emergence

Diehl Metering is already working closely with its customers to help them get the most from IoT and make it simply smart. As we have seen, utilities can benefit from benefits of mioty® connectivity in water meters to tackle urgent challenges such as NRW. Though its IoT Network Planning Service and Internet of Things experts, or with its new IZAR IoT GATEWAY Premium – the first multi-connectivity outdoor gateway, Diehl Metering offers sustainable solutions enabling the creation and maintenance of future-proof IoT networks.

FAQ

How can HYDRUS 2.0 help to detect leaks and reduce Non-Revenue Water?

The HYDRUS 2.0 connecter water meter delivers high metering performance, particularly at extremely low or high flow rates. Its robustness, i.e. its ability to maintain accuracy throughout its lifetime, means it can send reliable measurements. Available with different communication protocols (such as LoRaWAN®, OMS or mioty®) HYDRUS 2.0 provides data that can be relied on to reduce water losses. By analyzing historical data and alarms sent throughout the day, utilities gain deeper insights into network events, which can then inform their leakage detection strategies

How mioty® enhances water metering?

Addressing the water crisis requires network monitoring via digitalization. By maintaining a steady stream of precise data regarding their networks, utilities can observe and assess performance. This allows them to pinpoint the root causes of water losses and non-revenue water, thereby managing the situation and responding effectively. To achieve this, utilities need a high-performance connectivity standard:

  • capable of transmitting data reliably,
  •  accurately (with true traceability)
  • and securely over long distances.

In terms of range, scalability or energy efficiency, mioty® technology overcomes the limitations of all existing LPWAN technologies
