What is Overshoot Day
Earth Overshoot Day is a global reminder that our planet's resources are finite, emphasizing the need for resource efficiency. The first one was observed on 25 December 1971. In just 52 years, we have gone from six days of over-consumption to 151 in 2023, recorded on 2 August. This year, it’s one day before. This critical milestone underscores the urgency of rethinking our consumption patterns and managing our biocapacity. At Diehl Metering, we are dedicated to making a positive impact by harnessing the power of possibility.
Commitments
At Diehl Metering sustainability is part of our DNA, we’re working to empower a sustainable future. Not only by providing solutions for more efficient water and energy management, but also by reducing our CO2 emissions. We’re committed to contributing to and within a sustainable world:
-
To a sustainable future through innovative solutions and responsible practices.
-
Within a sustainable world, by committing to Global Compact Sustainable development goals (SDGs).
We’re stepping up our efforts on sustainability. By planning to invest in more renewable energy projects and continuing to enhance our product designs to be even more eco-friendly. We understand the importance of transparency and accountability, which is why our corporate sustainability claims are verified by third-party audits and certifications such as Ecovadis, ISO or more recently SBTi (Science Based Target initiative).
Targeting a sustainable landscape through priority programs
We have designed our own 7 Priority Programs to cover a wide range of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) criteria while also incorporating all UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are relevant to our business. There are areas where we are key players and where we want to make a difference. We are committed to:
-
Human rights: strengthening equality and diversity
-
Environment: reducing our carbon footprint and developing our greenhouse gas assessment project.
-
Labor: creating a fair and safe working environment.
-
Anti-corruption: prioritizing annual growth through equitable business.
Conserving energy and resources
Not only do we work internally on decreasing emissions and greenhouse gases, but also help our customers to improving water efficiency with technologies. This leads to sustainable business practices, aligning with global efforts to achieve ecological balance. For example, our water-efficient metering solutions have saved millions of liters of water, ensuring that this vital resource is used judiciously. Our advanced metering solutions enable communities to monitor and optimize water and energy consumption. By providing accurate data and actionable insights, we help reduce waste and preserve vital resources for future generations.
Helping to build smart cities
Participating in the development of innovative and more sustainable cities. Our technologies, such as Water Loss Management and Smart Energy solutions, help to manage public services efficiently, reduce the impact on the environment and improve the quality of life in urban areas. Innovation drives us to create solutions that meet today's needs while protecting tomorrow's environment.
Sustainability starts at home
Last but not least, we encourage our employees to adopt environmentally best practices, both at work and in their daily lives. From regular sustainability workshops to initiatives that promote personal development and well-being, we foster a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement.
By focusing on measurable impacts and continuous improvement, Diehl Metering aims to lead by example in the journey towards a more sustainable future.
