Tianjin Eco City – Fixed Network
Meeting the challenges of global climate change
Meeting the challenges of global climate change
China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city is a strategic cooperation project by the China and Singapore governments. The Eco-city site is located 40 km from Tianjin city centre and 150 km from Beijing city centre, in the Tianjin Binhai New Area – one of the fastest growing regions in China. The site covers about 31.23 km2, an estimated 350,000 people live there. The project started in 9/2008 and is scheduled to be finished in 2023. It gives proof of the determination of both governments to meet the challenges of global climate change by strengthening environment protection and energy saving.

The challenge:
Wireless reading of meters on an hourly basis, using future-proof software
The previously used meters of other manufacturers for water, thermal energy and gas had caused lots of problems. Additionally the lifetime of the batteries with less than 6 years was too short, data reading was far too low and with the very large volume of data, there was a delay in transmission. Since Eco-city is constructed as a resource-conserving, environment-friendly and intelligent community, a reliable and stable multi-energy meter reading system was the customer‘s fundamental requirement. Water, gas and heat meters should be read out together, by way of wireless communication. Data reading should be possible on an hourly basis, with little or no delay between meter reading and data update. The used software should be user friendly as well as expandable and upgradeable to meet future demands.

The solution:
Wireless communication, ultrasonic, heat meter, inductive radio module, micro-thermo gas meter, data valuation and analysis
After illuminating the status quo of the customer and defining his requirements, Diehl Metering designed the perfect solution for the Tianjin project: A fixed network solution which includes CORONA, SHARKY 773/775, AERIUS, IZAR RDC and the IZAR software platform. The meters transmit their data to a central receiver in every house that sends the collected data to the provider‘s system. Thanks to this solution data transmission can take place on an hourly basis.

The benefit:
Automatic data upload improves management efficiency, problems are spotted and solved immediately.
We are absolutely impressed by Diehl‘s product quality and the wireless communication they employed. Thanks to their intelligent metering technology and the longlife batteries we are now on the safe side.

The Diehl metering solution brings many benefits: Data are automatically uploaded to the billing and the forecast systems. Energy management and management efficiency are improved. The radio system enhances reading accuracy and helps to find and solve possible meter problems. Historical data can analyse the compliant type of the customer and detect any problems the end customer may have with heat, water and gas systems.
