Innovative proposals in the fields of cabin systems and water treatment selected are candidates for winning prizes in early April

Diehl Aviation has submitted several entries to the Crystal Cabin Award (CCA) competition 2019, two of which have now been selected by the CCA jury to enter the final stage of the competition. Diehl Aviation, a supplier for cabin interiors and aircraft systems in the aerospace industry, traditionally has a strong presence in the CCA every year, underlining its commitment to continuous innovation and improvement to aircraft cabin interior products.

The CCA is the leading international prize for innovation in the aircraft cabin, with winners announced every year during the week of the annual Aircraft interiors Expo event in Hamburg. In 2019, the CCA will be awarded in eight categories in Hamburg on April 2nd; Diehl Aviation is represented in two categories with one finalist out of three:

In the category “cabin systems”, Diehl has submitted a proposal for a “Flexible Passenger Service Unit (FlexPSU)”. The FlexPSU offers various advantages by providing flexible position and electrical power via the communications bus in the overhead passenger service unit. This brings about weight and cost reduction, easy installation including retrofit applications and increased functionalities for passengers.

„In the category “Greener Cabin, Health, Safety and Enviromment”, Diehl is putting forward the “UV LED Water Disinfection Unit”. This innovative water treatment system is using UVC lighting for providing healthy drinking water onboard aircraft, helping airlines to secure safe water to passengers during their operations. Due to the use of UV LEDs, the device is small and ideally suited for retrofit.”

Diehl Aviation is a Division of the Diehl Stiftung & Co. KG, and unites all of the aerospace activities of the Diehl Group under one roof. Within the aerospace industry, Diehl Aviation and Diehl Aerospace (a Joint Venture with Thales) are leading systems suppliers for aircraft systems and cabin solutions. Currently, Diehl Aviation employs over 6,000 people. The company's customers include the leading aircraft manufacturers Airbus (both aircraft and helicopters), Boeing, Bombardier, and Embraer as well as airlines and operators of commercial and corporate jets.
