Selected innovative proposals in the areas of cabin systems and water treatment among front runners

Diehl Aviation, a leading provider of cabin equipment and aircraft systems as well as related services, won one of eight categories in the competition for the Crystal Cabin Award (CCA) 2020/2021 and reached the round of finalists in another category.

In the “Greener Cabin, Health, Safety & Environment” category, Diehl took first place with its “Grey Water Reuse” concept, with which water consumption on board commercial aircraft can be reduced. The new technology treats service water from the lavatories’ wash basins so that it can be used for toilet flushing. In addition to cost reductions, this makes a significant contribution to reducing the environmental impact of air traffic.

In the “Material and Components” category, the company reached the round of finalists with “Experience Line Bridge”. This solution enables the creation of the perfect cabin atmosphere by integrating new static and dynamic technologies, such as impressive decors and patterns, as well as images and videos, into the conventional cabin lighting. This gives airlines greater design freedom and opens up new dimensions of the flight experience for passengers.

The CCA is the leading international innovation award in the aircraft cabin sector, with winners announced every year until 2019 during the week of the annual Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Diehl Aviation has traditionally been strongly represented in the CCA every year, underlining its commitment to continuous innovations and improvements cabin interior products.

Diehl Aviation had already submitted several candidates for the CCA competition in 2020, of which the two participants were selected by the CCA jury for the final of the competition last year. However, due to the pandemic, the CCA organization had to postpone the selection of the winners and the award ceremony until the end of March 2021.
