E-world, Europe’s leading exhibition for the energy and water industry, takes place once a year in Essen, Germany. As a reliable partner of utilities, municipal utilities and service providers, we were of course present at E-world 2019 (5–7 February 2019) as an exhibitor, and had the pleasure of welcoming a variety of interesting guests to our booth – including the Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, Thomas Bareiß (CDU).
During the opening press conference at E-world 2019, Thomas Bareiß, as a representative of the German government, emphasised the significance of new types of energy technology for Germany as a business location. The Member of German Parliament then made a tour of the exhibition, during which Dr. Christof Bosbach, President of the Division Board Diehl Metering, greeted him at the Diehl Metering booth.
In a one-to-one conversation, Dr. Bosbach explained Diehl Metering’s diverse business fields to Mr. Bareiß in more detail. In December 2018, the BSI (German Federal Office for Information Security) certified the first Smart Meter Gateway (SMGW) and thus laid the foundations for the Germany-wide rollout of intelligent measurement systems. With our metering devices, we are pursuing the strategy of using OMS Version 4, Security Profile B to enable direct communication with the SMGW via the LMN interface. As part of this, devices such as the HYDRUS ultrasonic water meter or the SHARKY ultrasonic energy meter are already certified according to OMS Version 4, Security Profile B, and so are suitable for connecting to a SMGW.
“Furthermore, we at Diehl Metering see great possibilities for developing our IZAR communication technology towards smart city. In cooperation with partners, we are developing a new radio technology for the Internet of Things, which we will standardise in accordance with the requirements of the BSI. We felt Mr. Bareiß’s visit to be very positive. I consider a close and regular exchange between politics and industry to be extremely valuable for both sides”, said Dr. Christof Bosbach.
In addition to our own IZAR system solution, visitors to our booth were able to acquaint themselves with a multitude of other topics. For example, our sub-metering portfolio provides utilities with everything from a single source: from precise measuring instruments for consumption-based billing, to systems, software and services for automated reading and evaluation of the collected measurement data.
E-world 2019 was a thoroughly successful exhibiton for us, and we would like to thank the large number of people who were interested in our products and visited our booth.
