MIOTY®: CUTTING-EDGE CONNECTIVITY FOR THE FUTURE OF METERING
Discover the budget-friendly connectivity standard that enables efficient and secure data transmission to power new loT opportunities. Find out why mioty® is set to be a game-changer for smart cities and the metering world.
mioty®: A BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGY FOR MASSIVE IOT
Designed to become a worldwide standard for the Internet of Things (loT), mioty® is a unique wireless communication protocol created to address the limitations of other Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) solutions. Thanks to a patented telegram splitting technology, data is transmitted in multiple sub-packages at different times and frequencies, ensuring unrivalled interference immunity and ultra-low power consumption.
What's more, this advanced IoT technology has been integrated with the latest generation of the OMS (Open Metering System) specification to create mioty®4OMS. This combination enables smart metering systems to seamlessly connect with smart city IoT applications.
mioty®4OMS: NEXT GENERATION CONNECTIVITY FOR METERING
Now it is possible to create a Smart city IoT network that is also running mioty® for smart metering

ONE NETWORK, ALL APPLICATIONS
mioty®4OMS uses the highly optimized Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) protocol defined in the latest OMS Generation 5 release. In mioty®4OMS, OMS standardizes data storage in radio messages, while mioty technology securely and efficiently transmits these messages over the air. This combination enables a wide range of meters and IoT devices to operate together within the same network.
TAKE PROACTIVE MEASURES
Thanks to mioty's capacity to deliver data as much, as frequently and as reliably as needed, utilities can benefit from a high Service Level Agreement (SLA). Data measurement can be sent several times per days, every hour or even more. With a wealth of field information at your fingertips, you have a real time view of your network and take decisions with confidence.
UNLOCK NEW OPPORTUNITIES
mioty®4OMS is designed for optimal compatibility with billing applications and high-performance analytics based on historical data – such as leak detectionsoftware. What’s more, it offers utilities the agility they need to adapt and expand their network to future requirements.
DISCOVER OUR mioty®4OMS PORTFOLIO
ln a fixed network, mioty®4OMS can be combined with Diehl Metering's IZAR loT GATEWAY PREMIUM as a base station to open a wealth of new opportunities in smart metering and smart city applications. For example, in combination with the HYDRUS 2.0, mioty®4OMS allows you to make the most of the meter's exceptional performance, range and its capacity to capture data in difficult-to-access locations. You can use that valuable data to build up a more accurate picture of your current situation and predict network challenges and opportunities in the future.
POWERING NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN METERING AND BEYOND
INTEROPERABILITY
As it is part of the OMS Generation 5 specifications, mioty®4OMS offer complete flexibility, allowing you to integrate an existing OMS infrastructure into your network and benefit from a wide range of different sensors. You can easily expand and connect your network with other massive IoT application like smart cities.
SIMPLE INSTALLATION
Whether you want to operate a fixed network and/or enable mobile readings, there's no need for a network management server or additional configuration. Simply plug & play!
RADIO RANGE
With a range around 30% better than similar LPWAN technologies, you can transfer data over 11 km and reach meters in challenging places. You'II cover larger areas with fewer receivers, helping you to reduce installation, maintenance and operating costs.
SCALABILITY
Connect up to 50,000 transmitting devices to enable massive loT - and reduce your Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by equipping your network with just a handful of receivers.
RADIO ROBUSTNESS
Telegram splitting technology ensures extreme robustness to interference from other networks, with less than 1% packet error rates, compared to over 10% for other LPWAN technologies. The result is unrivalled data availability.
DATA PROTECTION
Patented technology ensures information always reaches the gateway even in the case of telegram collisions. That means data flows are secured ail the way from the meter to the Meter Data Management (MDM) software.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Extremely low power consumption helps to extend battery lifetimes while transmitting more data more regularly. You'II have less need to replace devices due to battery exhaustion, reducing maintenance work and increasing TCO.

mioty® is a radio communication protocol created in 2020 by the Fraunhofer Institute and Diehl Metering. It uses an ultra-secure patented telegram splitting mode for communication, that makes it a robust, long-range and reliable connectivity for smart cities and many others business (industries, logistics, etc.…). mioty®4OMS is a specification designed for smart metering, and part of the last version of the OMS (Open Metering Standard) – the OMS Generation 5. In mioty®4OMS, OMS ensures standardized data storage in radio messages, while mioty® technology securely and efficiently transmits these messages over the air.
Hybrid network mixing LoRaWAN® and mioty@4OMS are possible, with gateways such as the IZAR IoT GATEWAY PREMIUM enabling you to create your all-in-one super-network. It provides full multiconnectivity by combining mioty®, LoRaWAN® and OMS radio technologies in one device.
The data security in a mioty® network is guaranteed at every level. Transmissions between each node and the gateway, and between each gateway and the infrastructure are encryption. It is a point-to-point encryption system, also named an end-to-end encryption. In other words, a point-to-point encrypted system will be set up containing data that is itself encrypted. The integrity of each message is ensured thanks to a signature so that networks managers know who sent data, what and when data have been sent. And only the server can read these data, no one else has access to them.
The Open Metering System (OMS) is the only system definition across Europe which integrates all media (electricity, gas, heat and water incl. sub metering) into one system. It was developed by the industry to guarantee a future-proof communication standard and interoperability between all the meter products. This means the way how data is transported from the meter to the software solution is specified. This contributes to the interoperability that utility could change the meter supplier from manufacturer A to manufacturer B, and without changing their software algorithms. That's the interoperability.
And in addition, OMS also introduced a certification process where the manufacturers deliver their devices to an independent certification lab. Once devices are tested against the OMS specifications, they get a certificate. A certified meter works plug-and-play from the metering site up to software solutions without any adaptations.
