This year marks the 10th anniversary of the European Sustainable Development Week, a movement uniting organization across Europe under one mission: to make sustainability tangible. At Diehl Metering, this mission comes to life through our own sustainable development week 2025, empowering every employee to contribute to a better world.

What is European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW)?

The European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) aims to highlight sustainability initiatives across Europe. It supports the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These goals can be:

  • Clean water and sanitation,
  • Gender equality,
  • Good health and well-being,
  • Responsible consumption and production…

Did you know? The ESDW unites thousands of initiatives across more than 42 countries.

How has Diehl Metering’s sustainability journey evolved since the beginning?

Diehl Metering has been engaged to sustainable development since 2009, first through France’s national Sustainable Development Week. In 2021, this commitment was extended to all our European sites under the ESDW framework.

This year, we aimed to take this initiative beyond European borders. To amplify its positive impact on a global scale, we introduced our own edition: sustainable development week 2025. This internal initiative shows our environmental and social responsibility, engaging employees across all sites through collaboratives workshops.

Building knowledge through workshops

The theme of this year’s Sustainable Development Week 2025 was: “Sustainable solutions for a better tomorrow”. This reflects our ambition to go beyond words and demonstrate how sustainability is embedded in our daily operations and innovations.

To extend the initiative and engage employees worldwide, the event included on-site workshops as well as online sessions. In total, 40 workshops were held, including 6 digital sessions, reaching teams in France, Germany, United States, China, as well as other global locations.

The workshops provided employees with practical insights into eco-design, recycling [A5] and responsible innovation, reinforcing our role as a sustainable employer.

Interactive workshops for a different way of learning

Sustainable Development Week 2025 focused on interactivity and collaboration. Participants moved into small groups to experiment, reflect, and exchange ideas in a series of hands-on, interactive workshops. Here are some examples of activities that stood out:

  • Eco-design in action: ALTAIR V4 vs V5
Through a double-sided card game, teams had to identify the improvements made to the ALTAIR V5 meter compared to the V4 version.

  • Exploring Water Loss Management (WLM)
Participants navigated our WLM software to detect leaks on a city map in demo mode, analyze water quality, and identify areas with missing data.

  • Recycling and material life cycle
Participants explored the full recycling cycle, discovered the challenges behind effective recycling, and learned how our company is driving change to minimize its environmental impact.

These engaging formats were highly appreciated by employees, who enjoyed the difference from a standard training session. Small-group exchanges encouraged collective thinking and strengthened commitment to sustainability challenges.

Our lasting commitment to a sustainable future

At Diehl Metering, sustainability is not a one-time event, it is part of our DNA. While Sustainable Development Week 2025 serves a key moment to engage and inspire our teams, our commitment to sustainability extends far beyond this event. Every day, we integrate responsible business practices and develop innovative solutions that help our customers reduce their environmental footprint.

To make this commitment measurable and transparent, we publish yearly a detailed  Sustainability & IMS Report and initiatives across all areas of our business. From eco-designed products to advanced water and energy management solutions, this report reflects our long-term vision: Empower a sustainable future through innovation, collaboration, and corporate responsibility.
