Increase smart water meter production
Diehl Metering’s site in Bażanowice, Poland has acquired a new 6000m2 building. This means we have more than doubled our production area in Bażanowice.
The new production plant will house final assembly lines and establish new electronics capabilities. It will focus on different meter models, including the HYDRUS smart water meter.
Setting the meter industry standard
By increasing our capacity, we are pursuing our long-term growth strategy. In addition to ultrasonic water meter production, Bażanowice will assemble SHARKY energy meters.
Both HYDRUS and SHARKY are flagship products for Diehl Metering, combining precision metrology with outstanding connectivity.
A well-established meter supplier in Poland
Diehl Metering has a rich heritage in Poland, dating back to 1991. In that time, our Polish team has produced around 40 million meters.
The opportunity to expand came about when a neighboring building was vacated. We needed extra space for our assembly line production. Despite the building being very big, we took a strategic decision to rent it. This would prepare us for expansion over the next 5 years.
Collaboration for industry improvement
It took considerable planning to create the new meter manufacturing facility. Our teams worked hard to bring the building up to new standards. This involved:
- Establishing a lean manufacturing approach
- Researching the best production layout
- Installing new equipment and reorganizing existing equipment
- Creating new office spaces
- Ensuring production scalability for the future
The aim was to maximize operational efficiency through local knowhow and cutting-edge technology. The project relied on expertise from Industrial Engineering, Industrial Partner Management and Operations. It was closely monitored by members of the board and local management.
This project is a clear sign of trust in our production capacities and competencies. It’s been achieved thanks to close cross-department collaboration. And the whole process has strengthened our internal ties and prepared us for future growth.

A day of celebration
The new unit was officially opened on October 30, 2024. A special event was held for everyone involved in the project. Invitees included our historic partners. Following a top management presentation, official guests enjoyed a factory tour.
With demand for meters rising, the plant is already increasing its capacity. Today, Bażanowice employs 450 people, and we expect to continue growing our production capabilities in the future.
