Smart City premiere in Barcelona

24.11.2017
Diehl Metering

We’re looking back over a very successful appearance at this year’s Smart City Expo World Congress (14.11.-16.11.17) in Barcelona. As the only smart metering solution provider on the market, we were represented on two partner stands: Deutsche Telekom and NEC. So we were able to convey a fantastic overall picture of our services.

The world's leading trade fair for sustainable urban development, Smart City Expo World Congress 2017, held under the motto "Empower Cities. Empower People.", welcomed the record number of more than 18,000 visitors. The three-day summit on smart cities brought together over 700 cities from the five continents, 675 exhibitors, and over 400 speakers

As a technology leader with more than 20 years of experience in the field of metering and connectivity, participation in this trade fair was a premiere for us. We focus on the latest communication technologies for the Internet of Things and the intelligent linking of meter and sensor data in smart city platforms. Thanks to the modular structure of our solutions, they can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems such as public networks. Thus the integration of an intelligent consumption data acquisition into complex Smart City concepts can be realized with us without any problems.

At the NEC Europe booth, a leading IT network technology integrator, we presented our smart metering solution portfolio as well as the successful integration of smart metering systems into NEC's Smart City Platform (CCOC). In addition to a reworked dashboard and new features (e. g. leakage detection) of the web-based meter data management software IZAR PLUS Portal, we demonstrated our endconsumer app IZAR@HOME to a top-class audience for the first time.

At Deutsche Telekom's stand, we showed various smart metering applications that can be implemented in a narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) network. Dr. Christof Bosbach, member of the Division Board, gave a presentation on the experiences with NB-IoT gained in field tests. The modular approach to connectivity that we are pursuing has also been addressed.

Within the scope of collaborations, the Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology NB-IoT will be evaluated in laboratory and field tests with regard to the possible implementation of metering applications and the development of resulting potential business models.

At the well-attended trade fair, our two exhibition areas attracted interested trade visitors from all over the world. A lively exchange with many exciting conversations about smart metering and connectivity are already arousing curiosity for the next edition of the trade fair in the coming year.
