A beautiful tradition is continued – scrap becomes art

Diehl Metall

Art exhibition of students from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium (secondary school) in Röthenbach a.d. Pegnitz at Diehl Metall

This year, seven students from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium exhibited once again their artworks within the project seminar "Art". The creativity of the young people was asked this time on the topic "Imaginarium" which they came up with by themselves. The students oriented themselves on the areas "mythical creatures" as well as "universe" and designed their pictures on this basis.

At the beginning of the seminar, raw materials, such as copper granulate and brass chips were provided to the students by Diehl Metall. These waste products were then used for the pictures by the prospective graduates. Thus, for example, the material was transformed into decoration and jewelry. The artworks can now be admired by the employees of Diehl Metall in the head office in Röthenbach a.d. Pegnitz for one year.

Uwe Schmidt, head of raw materials management of the Diehl Metall Stiftung & Co. KG, opened the vernissage on Friday, 9th of December 2016, and wished the students good luck for the upcoming examinations. He also thanked principal Clemens Berthold for the good cooperation in recent years. Special thanks went to Gabriele Christoffers, the art teacher of the secondary school, who has now led the project seminar "Art" for the last time and will enter her well-earned retirement soon. These wishes were also endorsed by the mayor of Röthenbach Klaus Hacker, who used the vernissage as an occasion for a visit.

In order to gain insight into the life of Diehl Metall, the students were allowed to attend a factory tour after the presentation of their artworks.
