Lead is replaced in many products by more sustainable and environment-friendly materials. Diehl Metal Applications is working on new types of galvanic surfaces to replace lead by indium, tin or silver, while costs are simultaneously kept attractive through selective coating procedures.
This especially applies to the press-fit zone technology using electroplated copper components in circuit boards thus providing reliable, solder-free connections. These joining technologies are used above all in vehicles as they are suited very well to meet the high requirements regarding operational reliability.
