Werner Diehl turns 70

Lawyer Werner Diehl, Shareholder and Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Diehl Group, Nuremberg, turns 70 on the 1st of June 2016. 

Werner Diehl is the eldest son of Karl and Irmgard Diehl. After completing his degree in law, a six month traineeship at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Sao Paolo and a one year internship with the auditing company KPMG in Munich, he was admitted as a lawyer at the Oberlandesgericht Nuremberg (Higher Regional Court) in 1975. He joined the business on the 1st April 1975, initially heading up the liaison office between the administrative board and the Board of Directors. After completing further posts in the former areas of defence technology and semi-finished products, Werner Diehl took over the financial and asset administration for the Group. On 15th September 1992, Werner Diehl became a member of the administrative board (since 1st January 1998 Supervisory Board); he acted as Chairman of the Board from 2002 to 2008 and since 2008 as Vice Chairman.
To this day, the focus of his work has always been finances. Safeguarding our cash flow has always been a priority for him and the basis for all his activities ensuring that the company would be financially independent. As a member of the IHK-General Assembly, he has represented the company on this committee for more than 25 years. 

Social issues are a topic close to Werner Diehl's heart. Since 1987, he has run the Karl-Diehl-Foundation (set up by his father) for people in need.  Furthermore, Mr Diehl has been active in the Irmgard Diehl Children Foundation since 2008. This foundation focusses on supporting disadvantaged children and teenager. He has also dedicated his time to the cooperation, which was started by his father decades ago, with the Nuremberg Altstadtfreunde (Friends of the Old Town) and added his own touches. As Honorary Chairman of the Diehl Pensioner's Association, Mr Diehl is also connected in a special way to the former employees of the company. 

For his long-standing entrepreneurial work as well as for his dedication beyond the company's reach, Mr Werner Diehl was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Bavarian Service Medal. He is also the recipient of an IHK Badge of Honour in gold, the Medal of Honour "Pro Meritis Caritas Norim-bergae" awarded by the Nuremberg Caritas Association and the Medal of Honour of the town of Röthenbach. 

Diehl has a turnover of more than 3.1 billion Euros in its group divisions Metall, Controls, Defence, Aerosystems and Metering worldwide and employs around 16,000 members of staff.
