On 1 March, 2016, Diehl Controls officially received the award for “Factory of the Year/Global Excellence in Operations 2015” for its Wangen site in Allgäu. At a congress in Ulm, plant director Katrin Laudensack first presented the factors that contributed to the Allgäu-based company’s production success. This had been rounded off with a visit to the plant in Wangen, where congress participants had the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the future-oriented production facility.
Overall winner of the competition
Fully automatic, highly efficient and yet flexible – these are the characteristics of the Diehl Controls production facility in Wangen that impressed the jury of the renowned industry benchmark competition “Factory of the Year”. In October 2015, the trade journal “Produktion” and management consultancy firm A. T. Kearney selected the developer and manufacturer of electronic components for the domestic appliance industry as the overall winner. The official award ceremony now followed. At the ceremony on the evening of March 1, Katrin Laudensack and President of the Corporate Division Board Dieter Neugebauer accepted the award in Ulm on behalf of Diehl Controls.
“The award is a fantastic acknowledgement of our work and confirms our conviction that it is possible to manufacture circuit boards on a world-class level even in a high-wage country such as Germany,” said Dieter Neugebauer. “We are proud to be joining the illustrious list of overall winners of this competition, which includes global companies like Porsche and Siemens.”
The awards ceremony was part of a three-day congress that is regarded as a key meeting place for the German-speaking production industry. The winners in the various competition categories held presentations on their success concepts. Katrin Laudensack presented the special features of manufacturing at Diehl Controls in a presentation entitled “Maximum performance by humans and machines”. “I am looking forward to using a best-practice example to show the participants how we were able to continuously improve our production processes and increase the degree of automation on an ongoing basis,” explained Katrin Laudensack. “On the basis of digitization and networking, we now achieve a higher level than ever before in terms of product numbers and quality.”
To conclude the congress, Diehl Controls invited the participants to visit the plant in Wangen and see the fully automated production line first hand. “The Factory of the Year congress is a top class event where the key players of the industry will be gathered,” said Dieter Neugebauer. “The fact that we are able to welcome the participants at our site in Allgäu this year tells us that we belong to this group.”
