The METERUS-Middleware combines different metering device infrastructures and provides the data and functions necessary for your company applications. Existing measuring equipment can also become part of an overall solution. In the case of gas and water meters, this measuring equipment does not even have to be digital. The use of remote control on the basis of the open metering standard or via an M-Bus connection enables even older measuring equipment to be integrated into a Smart Metering solution.
The METERUS server is the core element of the communication between the meter infrastructures and company software for data processing . The values and functions from the relevant meters are available at a standardised interface for use by the company software, such as billing or CRM systems as well as for the web server of the customer portal. The METERUS server processes the data as well as storing it and making it ready for calling up at the METERUS interface.
All meters incorporated in METERUS are thereby combined to form a single „virtual meter“. Communication with the meters is by means of connectors adapted to the output of the meter infrastructures connected. The functions range from calling up metered data (data connector) to remote configuration, as well as running tariff calendars and blocking/unblocking (commando connector). The METERUS virtual meter means that the metering infrastructure is independent of the backend processes. It is also possible to incorporate meters from different manufacturers using a variety of communication methods. Access to data and functions is protected by a controlled access rights management system, whereby systems and employees are only granted access to the information which they actually need to carry out their work.
A METERUS server licence is needed to operate the system, together with a connector licence for each meter connected through the connector in question. Both the METERUS server and the connectors are configured for handling a throughput of large quantities of data. Complex requests for information from the METERUS interface, for example concerning the load profiles of a group of meters within a defined period, can be processed in a matter of seconds. The exchange of data with the METERUS interface is by means of XML commands. Many providers of software for energy supply companies have already integrated connections to this interface into their software.
The METERUS server is multi-client capable. The metering point operator/service provider is therefore able to provide the appropriately authorised person with automatic access to their customers‘ data. The system is configured for simultaneous access by a large number of systems and users.
The operation by EVB of a METERUS Middleware client on its behalf is one of the possible project options in the area of Smart Metering. After one-time installation of the METERUS Middleware at the EVB computer centre and setting up the communication with their meters, EVB manages the operations of the METERUS client and ensures for the regular provision of the meter measured data.
The METERUS Middleware supports the linking of diverse Advanced Meter Infrastructures (AMI), for example, for Echelon (NES), Siemens (AMIS), Hydrometer, Iskraemeco (PLC data concentrators). In addition, AMIs can also be linked via a generic csv/xml import interface. In the case of Echelon NES, there is the additional possibility of the Echelon NES server being operated by EVB.
For customers who wish themselves to implement and operate their smart metering solutions with METERUS Middleware, EVB offers individual solutions on request.
