Defence Minister visits Diehl in Ueberlingen

Defence Minister Dr. Thomas de Maizière, MdB, paid Diehl Defence in Ueberlingen an information visit on July 12, 2012.

Diehl board member Claus Günther offered Dr. Maizière comprehensive insights into the high-tech expertise at the Ueberlingen location, where guided missiles for the German Bundeswehr and other NATO countries have been developed and manufactured for more than 50 years. The air-to-air guided missile IRIS-T is one of the superior products, which has been delivered to six European air forces and selected export nations as standard armament of combat aircraft since 2005.

During an almost two-hour company tour, Dr. de Maizière took the opportunity to talk with the firm´s employees.

The ongoing restructuring of the Bundeswehr as well as current and new procurement programs dominated the concluding discussion.
