The economic success of industries is more and more influenced by the efficient use of increasingly scarce resources. Both the availability and the efficient use of energy will play an important role in production. This includes the optimal use of materials.
In addition to the mechanical and technological properties of the material selection for a stamped part, the metal value should not be overlooked. Today, the ratio between plating and metal price is already 1:4. This affects the development of materials and conventional manufacturing processes. Recycling capabilities of the stamping scrap, which accounts to max. 50%, need to be considered increasingly. Alternatively, it is advisable to use high-solid materials to reduce the wall thickness of the used material.
For this, DMA has presented two alloys at Kongress Stanztechnik:
Ecobronze BB05xi and Phosphor-Bronze BB95 for optimised material use.
An alloy is economic and sustainable if the stamping scrap can be reused directly. Phosphor-Bronze BB05xi with its high electrical conductivity is an environmentally friendly alloy. It is an economical and ecological alternative to hot-dip tinned CuFe2P. Ecobronze BB05xi can be fed back directly into the recycling process without limitation, even though it is tin-plated.
BB95 is a new high-strength phosphor-bronze, which allows a material-saving design due to its outstanding mechanical properties.
Finally, the talk named potential cost savings in the recycling process, if these smart materials and recycling concepts are used in stamping operations.
The event was rounded off by an evening event at the Automobile Museum in Dortmund. The exhibition shows high-quality exhibits and classic cars. Many have used the network to exchange information on specialized topics.
