On Girls Day at Diehl in Überlingen, 20 students at ages between 12 and 18 from the Bodensee county won insights in technology professions such as “Electronic Specialist for Equipment and Systems” or “Industry Mechanic”. With the objective of arousing their enthusiasm for technical occupations, the companies Diehl BGT Defence and Diehl Aerospace welcomed interested girls for the 13th time. Craftmanship was required for practical exercises in the Technical Training Center. Supervised by apprentices, the astute girls, not only made light-emitting diodes blink by soldering resistors. They also proved their dexterity by engraving their names on bottle openers. During a tour of the electronic production facilities, the visitors learned that technology is no longer a male preserve.
