PELE is a new kind of gun ammunition family without fuze and explosive, nevertheless achieving comparable target effectiveness.
The ammunition is offered by Diehl BGT Defence in the medium-caliber range. The PELE ammunition's physical principle is based on the use of materials of different density for the projectile body and the filling.
The three PELE 20mm, 27mm and 30mm ammunition variants can be used on machine guns for helicopters and land vehicles, internal helicopter guns and naval guns, aircraft cannons, for air defence and coastal protection.
The combination of two materials of different density allows fragmentation of the PELE ammunition variants in the target even without using an explosive or a fuze.
The 27mm x 145 caliber PELE has been certified and introduced in service in diverse NATO countries.
Additional calibres are currently being developed.
