Cooperation agreement IDAS

The Turkish company Roketsan and the German firms ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Diehl Defence signed a cooperation agreement to develop and supply the submarine-launched IDAS (Interactive Defence and Attack System for Submarines) missile. The accord was inked at the IDEF International Defence Industry Fair in Istanbul on May 9, 2013. The signature ceremony took place in the presence of Eberhard Pohl, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Turkey, Thomas Kossendey, Member of the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag) and Parliamentary Secretary of the Federal Minister of Defence as well as the German Armament Director Detlef Selhausen.IDAS provides new self-defence and asymmetric warfare capabilities for submerged submarines to engage threats from the air, naval vessels as well as coastal targets. Girls Day 2013

On Girls Day at Diehl in Überlingen, 20 students at ages between 12 and 18 from the Bodensee county won insights in technology professions such as “Electronic Specialist for Equipment and Systems” or “Industry Mechanic”. With the objective of arousing their enthusiasm for technical occupations, the companies Diehl BGT Defence and Diehl Aerospace welcomed interested girls for the 13th time. Craftmanship was required for practical exercises in the Technical Training Center. Supervised by apprentices, the astute girls, not only made light-emitting diodes blink by soldering resistors. They also proved their dexterity by engraving their names on bottle openers. During a tour of the electronic production facilities, the visitors learned that technology is no longer a male preserve. The Swedish Defence Material Administration signed a contract with Diehl Defence to deliver IRIS-T SLS surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems for the country´s armed forces. The new units comprising the IRIS-T missile, missile launching station and fire control system are to improve the national air defence by protection against air attacks from a large variety of threats including missiles, helicopters and aircraft. Following deployment, the mobile system allows fully automatic operation 24 hours a day. The Swedish Army will operate the SAM fire units, together with a new Command and Control System as well as modernized sensors from Saab. IRIS-T SLS employs the standard IRIS-T air-to-air missile and is the short-range complement to the medium-range IRIS-T SLM ground-based air defence system of Diehl Defence. IDEX 2011

Diehl Defence is displaying a cross-section of advanced equipment for armies, air forces and navies at its 210 square meter exhibition stand at the IDEX from February 17 to 21, 2013 in Abu Dhabi. The product portfolio not only includes the IRIS-T SLM air defence system. It also features guided missiles, an air combat training system as well as medium- and large calibre infantry and navy ammunition: IRIS-T is the world´s most advanced air-to-air short-range guided missile and the standard weapon system for the combat aircraft Eurofighter/Typhoon, Tornado, F-16, EF-18 and Gripen currently operative in ten air forces. Diehl Defence is focusing on European guided missile expertise at the Aero India from February 6 to 10, 2013, in Bangalore. IRIS-T is one of the world´s most advanced air-to-air guided missiles as a standard weapon system for combat aircraft. It is being delivered to ten nations worldwide.The anti-ship guided missile RBS15 Mk3 is being introduced in the German and Polish Navies.
